The Magic in Coriander

Coriander PlantDid you know that coriander and cilantro are the same plant? The spice coriander is the dried seeds from the plant while cilantro is the leaves from the plant. This is just the beginning of the magical world of coriander, that you may not have previously been introduced to.

Coriander has many health benefits in all its forms: leaves, dried, and essential oil form. It has been used for centuries to quell anxiety, dispel toxins from the body and stimulate circulation. In recent lab tests, on mice, coriander was shown to help break down bad cholesterol and eliminate it from the body while actually raising the good cholesterol. Europeans have used coriander for years to balance the blood sugar of diabetics while fresh cilantro leaves have been shown to inhibit ecoli growth and fight against Salmonella.

Because coriander removes toxins in the body, stimulates circulation, and prevents build up of fluid in the tissues - the essential oil is a great remedy for cellulite. Simply mix 10 - 12 drops of the essential oil with a carrier oil (almond oil is a good all purpose carrier oil) and massage on cellulite areas in a circular motion twice a day. This treatment has also been known to be good for stretch marks.

In addition to all of the medicinal benefits of coriander, this herb is also a good nutritional source. It is high in dietary fiber, iron, magnesium and manganese.

To relive anxiety drink a cup of coriander tea, if the taste is not your favorite add a little lemon to balance out the flavor.

Inflammatory Breast Cancer, In The Know

Filed Under Awareness, Blog, Health | Leave a Comment

rememberingelaine.gifRecently I received an email about a form of breast cancer, which you may not have heard about. Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is a little known form of breast cancer that is very aggressive and does not appear as a lump, but instead as an infection in the breasts. Usually not detected by a mammogram or an ultrasound, it can go undiagnosed for long periods of time.

The symptoms of IBC can be similar to that of other breasts infections, in which case antibiotics are usually prescribed. If you have a breast infection and antibiotics are not effective within a week, you should ask your doctor to perform a biopsy or get a referral to a breast specialist.

As women, having the knowledge and the tools to enable others to heal us is very important. Likewise, sharing what we know with other women gives us an opportunity to diagnose a condition in time to reverse it’s effects and save a life. If you would like to find out more about IBC and help spread the word among the public about this little known and deadly form of breast cancer, please visit RememberingElaine.org. Butter Soft Skin

Like Butter Shower CreamA few months ago I purchased Bath & Body Works Like Butter shower cream, thinking that the shea butter would do wonders for the softness of my skin. After using it once I promptly decided that it did not produce that result I was looking for and have not used it much since. What I didn’t think about is that each time I used it I was only using it one day and then using something else (I like variety). Recently, I thought I would give it a second change and I liked the spa smell so much ended up using it everyday. On the fourth day I noticed something very different, my skin had a smoothness and softness to it that was incredible. The shea butter had produced the exact result I was looking for, it just took a little patience. Since then I use it every day and am so addicted that I completely ignore all other options in my shower. This is a purchase well worth making!
