Spring 2007 Fashion Report

Tart Spring 2007 RunwayIn California spring has sprung and in New York it’s just around the corner, even if that chance of snow makes you feel like Spring is forever away. So for all you chicks that are waiting to dive into the new frocks of spring, here’s the Spring 2007 Fashion Forecast. What’s hot, what’s not, and everything you will definitely want.

The Shift Dress This season is all about the dress, specifically the shift dress, and it’s short, short, short. Think Twiggy short. The designers this year were so inspired by their predecessors, that they didn’t bother to make any changes. It’s all about sixties swingin’ glamor. The rule? The shorter the dress the shorter the heel.

Trapeze Shapes For tops and dresses this trend follows right on the heals of the dress for the seasons biggest must have. On every runway from Peter Som to Betsey Johnson. Check out Arden B for the latest styles.

High Waisted Pants As a lover of the hip slung style, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but designers are definitely pushing for pants with a higher waistline. On the brighter side of things, these pants give you a long slim silhouette, an elegant swagger, and take ten years off your appearance. Katherine Hepburn would be proud.

Patent Leather What could make you feel sexier or more ladylike? The most popular version of this look? Nude or black patent heals, even sexier with a peep toe!

Sky High Wedges According to Elle Magazine these should be no less than four inches, but remember, these are for your longer length items. They look great with a high waisted full leg pant.

One Shoulder Tops and Dresses This oh-so-sexy trend is an exciting staple of the Spring 2007 collection, try it with a dress in cobalt blue, slightly above the knees, with your sexiest patent heals.

Trench Coats This classic has made a huge comeback for this season. If you only buy one piece of outerwear, buy this. The biggest color? Khaki.

Metallics Still here from last spring and it looks like they’re here to stay - at least for a while. Shoes and handbags are the most popular staples of this trend.

Fringe Oh lord, it’s everywhere! From full dresses of it to belts to purses. If you don’t feel like covering yourself from head to toe, pick up a cute purse with fringe on the handle.

Shorts Almost no runway was without shorts, pair these with elegant tops for a totally up to date look.

Cocktail Rings If you haven’t noticed already - cocktail rings are the “it” thing to have this season, and every store has it’s own version no matter what your budget.

Graphic Prints From dresses to tops to scarves, add something graphic to your wardrobe this season. Particularly black and white, although they are showing up in every color from tangerine to cobalt blue.

Sporty Details with Elegant Touches Sport watches with gemstones and parkas with a satin touch, it’s all about casual, ladylike elegance.

Soft Colored Leggings Leggings in general are the hottest thing going, but soft colored leggings are the newest thing on the runway. These look beautiful with slinky tops and flat metallic sandals. Quick tip: for this season, always pair soft colored leggings with flats…if you want a dressier look try your black leggings with black patent heals for night time.

The Drop Waist Dress This is a smaller trend, but a note worthy one. It looks great as a drop waist fringe dress, this time it’s more reminiscent of the sixties style than the flapper styles of the twenties.

Flats Shoes and Sandals. Match them with everything: dresses, skirts, leggings and jeans. For a more glamorous touch buy them in a metallic bronze.

The Colors Cobalt Blue, sprinkles of Yellow and Khaki!, Khaki!, Khaki! If there is one key piece this spring that goes with everything it’s the khaki pencil skirt. Make sure you have one of these in your closet and a pair of nude patent heals to match. Khaki parkas are also especially big.

Big Silver Jewelry Sorry ladies, but chandeliers are out! Right now it’s all about big silver necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. To mix it up add a white plastic mod bangle to the mix.

Large Plastic-Framed Sunglasses What sixties inspired season would be complete without this look? Snatch up a pair in black or white for the edgiest look.

The Street Report:

Yansi FugelDo you ever have the experience that every time you travel you wish you could pack less? What if we get invited to a cool club? What if we decide to stay longer? You add one more dress and two more tops, before you know it you’ve packed your whole wardrobe and you have no room for your shoes. Keeping Red Hair Red

If you have chemically treated red hair then you know it can be difficult to keep it from fading, and if you have gone from blond to red you know it can seem near impossible to keep the red in you hair. After years of experience going from blond to red, red to blond, and several other metamorphoses I have come to know the secrets of the red locks.

The first thing to know is that red is the largest hair color molecule and therefore it is difficult to get it to stick. However, once you have gotten it to hold it is also the most difficult to get rid of. Because of this, if you are going from blond to red (particularly treated blond) the first thing you want to focus on is keeping the red tone in your hair, you can focus on the specific shade you want later. If you are not blond, getting the shade you want now will most likely be an easier feat.

If you are coloring your own hair you can lock the color in by putting a shower cap over your hair (while the color is on your hair) and applying heat with a blow dryer. Whether you are coloring your own hair or having a professional color it, make sure you wait 24 - 48 hours before washing it. This allows the color to lock and settle into your hair.

In order to keep your hair red make sure you use a color safe shampoo, a great one is Redken’s Color Extend Shampoo. In addition, if you really want to see you color last, wash your hair in cold water - this is the ultimate way to keep your color lasting the longest and the shade brighter longer. Nothing will fade your red hair faster than hot water, so cold, cold, cold! It’s worth it for the results you will see.

The next trick to have in your bag is a color glaze that adds both color and shine to your hair between colorings. The best one for this is John Frieda’s Luminous Color Glaze. It comes in shades for both bright red hair and dark red hair, only takes three minutes, you can do it in the shower, and it leaves your hair really soft.

The last, but one of the most important things is to use a daily color sealer. John Frieda’s Color Envy Daily Color Sealer yields amazing results. It locks your color in daily, protects it from the elements, and adds shine. This product really works to prevent fading on a daily basis.

If after taking these steps you still find your color to be fading, check the styling products you are using. Some styling products will fade you color very quickly. Choose a line that does not fade color or is formulated for chemically treated hair. Aveda’s products are made with color treated hair in mind and will be much gentler on your red locks.

Most of all be patient and follow these steps to build the red shade that you really want. If you are in the sun a lot use a sun screen on your hair to prevent fading. The more you use these tips the more results you will see and the more you will see of the red you really love.

A Facial In a Bottle

Do you have spots of acne on your skin that keep resurfacing? They probably go away for a while and then pop right back up again, and when they do disappear they leave these little red and brown spots on your skin. These areas are called “active patches”, meaning the acne may go away for a while, but it is still active, like a volcano - you never know when it will erupt. You may even have been successful at getting rid of your acne, but now you have these little brown spots where the acne used to be, these are actually scars caused the acne. Years of acne, hormone fluctuations, stress and the environment can leave your skin lacking luster and moisture, resulting in skin that looks older than it should and wrinkles or not, just plain dull.

Up until now I thought the only solution for the skin of my dreams was weekly facials, ten minute masks every other day, expensive products, daily exfoliation, need I go on? All of this spelled time and money to me, all worth it for the skin I desired, however, I always just wished there was a simpler way. Well who better to provide the perfect solution than my mom? During one happily chatty conversation my mom happened to mention what great results she was getting with a vitamin called Biotin. Biotin is a member of the B vitamin family and after hearing her rave about it I decided to give it a try.

I had no idea the results I was in store for. After two weeks of taking 5 milligrams of Biotin a day, I woke up one morning, looked in the mirror and stood in disbelief at the skin I saw. My goal had been to get my skin looking like it did when I was eighteen (I’m approaching my thirtieth birthday) - I could not believe I had actually achieved this! The little patches of active acne spots were gone, the scars left on my chin and around my lips were no where to be seen, and my skin was radiating luminance. The next few days I noticed that people kept asking me what I had done to my skin, I always smiled knowing the pure simplicity of this key to beautiful skin.

These results continue and Biotin is now a permanent staple of my beauty routine. I am so pleased with the results that I now have a new found freedom to pamper myself. Facials are no longer something I have to do, but rather something I get to treat myself to, in addition to which, for about seven dollars for a two month supply, my cash flow is freed up for things I really care about. Simple, inexpensive, extraordinary results…what are you waiting for?
