Benefit Cosmetic’s California Kissin’

california-kissin.jpgIn case you haven’t heard yet, Benefit Cosmetics has come out with a new lip gloss called California Kissin’ and get ready for this…it’s…blue! Yes, it’s a lip gloss that is tinted slightly blue. Benefit says “the subtle blue sheen makes teeth appear whiter and the minty taste freshens breath”.

I was a little skeptical about the blue tint and whether it would really brighten my smile, however given Benefit’s proven track record at producing results I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt (no pun intended) and give this product a try. Upon first using it I just put it on my lips alone, curious to see what effect the blue produced. I noticed nothing in the color, it looked clear however the minty freshness of this gloss is wonderful! It makes me feel like I just brushed my teeth every time I use it.

Thinking I must be missing something about the blue tint, since it looked clear I decided to read the directions. Funny enough those tiny little words can make a difference, especially with specialty makeup products. Well what do you know? This lip gloss should be used over or under lipstick in order to get the desired smile brightening effect. Feeling now slightly more prepared I decided to give it another shot and applied it over my favorite nude lipstick.

I really like this stuff! I couldn’t believe it, but it did actually brighten my smile and not only that it gave my face a slightly brighter look. The blue in this lip gloss comes in the form of small bits of aqua-blue glitter. This is not your gaudy glitter that we mixed with Carmex in the nineteen nineties to make eye shadow, but rather a subtle sparkle of just what you need.

I like this lip gloss best over, rather than under, nude lipstick and with it’s quite blue sheen it will look especially good with your best smoky eye.

The New Mascaras: How To Get The Look

Did you know that the technology in mascara brushes has changed so drastically lately that you can no longer put your mascara on the traditional way and have it look great? The old, start at the bottom of your lashes and sweep the brush up until you reach the end of your lashes no longer works. Now, the mascara brush is actually designed with spaces in between the bristles, this means you need to apply it in a whole new way to get a fabulous look.

chanel-eyes.jpgPlace the brush at the base of your lashes, wiggle the brush side to side as you work your way to the end of your lashes continuing the side to side motion until you reach the end. If you like mascara on your top and bottom lashes make sure you use the trick on both the top and bottom. With this trick and todays new brushes you probably only need one coat of mascara for a great daytime look. Visit Chanel.com for an instructional video on this mascara technique, Extracils.

Keep Flowers Fresher Longer

gerber-daisies.jpgYesterday was my birthday and my mom brought me thirty gorgeous pink Gerbera Daisies, my favorite! They looked like she had just bought them, totally fresh, and when I mentioned how fresh they looked she told me a secret, she bought them four days earlier! How did she keep them so fresh? My newest secret for keeping my flowers fresh as long as possible, put the flowers in one tablespoon of liquid bleach and two cups of water. You will not believe how fresh they look for how long, it works so much better and longer than the old trick of Sprite in the water or the florist flower food. It’s been almost a week now and they still look like I just got them.

Buy yourself some flowers and try it today!
