Yohji Yamamoto for Dr. Martens

new-docs.jpgI’m not sure whether to say “there back” in a creepy, horror flick reminiscent voice or vehemently praise Yohji Yamamoto for adding an elegant twist to Dr. Martens. Whatever the case the famous Japanese designer has partnered with the cult shoe company for a brand new, limited edition, designer exclusive line. And I must say, I am tempted by the gorgeous, elegant yet casual winter white suede boot in the collection.

Although most of the collection is very similar to the classic 10-hole Dr. Martens, the only obvious difference being the subtle but large “YY” embossing on the outer side of the boot and the hidden zipper, I do like that Yohji Yamamoto has capitalized on one of Dr. Martens best designs: the pointed toe.

The general media opinion seems to be that the pointed toe is an updated version of Dr. Martens, thought up by the creative Mr. Yamamoto. Maybe this is marketing at its best or, quite possibly, this is because us state side girls rarely if ever had access this very chic side of the Dr. During Dr. Martens heyday the pointed toe was quite popular in Europe, Paris and London girls got the dibs on this more feminine side of Dr. Martens, while the pointed toe was basically not available in the US.

This week the Fall 2007 collection premiers and the girls of New York, LA, Paris, London, and several cities in Japan will have access to this most gorgeous aspect of Docs. The shoes retail between $520 and $1,250 and are available at at Yohji Yamamoto, 103 Grand St, NYC, call 212-966-9066; Maxfield Los Angeles, 8825 Melrose Ave, call 310-274-8800; and Barneys New York, 660 Madison Ave, call 212-826-8900.

Note: For your high fashion, high profile guy Yohji Yamamoto has also premiered a men’s line of Dr. Martens available at the stores listed above.
