Buy Clothing That Flatters

Have you subscribed to Self’s One Month Makeover yet? One of today’s tips really stuck me, it’s something I actually did yesterday and I felt great! I bought a top at Target from the new Alice Temperley collection, my first new gray item for Fall’s gray trend. It’s one of those tops that makes you feel so good, you don’t want to take it off. When I got home I was so inspired by the way I felt in the shirt that I promptly went to my wardrobe, pulled out a top that makes me feel dumpy and horrible, threw it in the trash and hung the new shirt in its place. A new confidence filled me and I felt ready to take on the world. Let the new Fall season be your excuse to fill your wardrobe with clothes that make you feel amazing and flatter you.
Pick up something that makes you feel pretty right now, even if you’re not happy with your size. When you get home, toss one item from your closet that doesn’t fit. Every time you shop, repeat the buy-purge process until you’ve built a new wardrobe that shows off your body as it is. If you feel sexier, you’ll walk sexier, act sexier and exude body confidence—which is, well, sexy.

Keep in mind that there is no “away” to throw stuff! Rather than ever throwing things that still have a lot of “life” left in them (i.e. embodied energy of all the natural resources and human labor that went into the production, transport, marketing, and packaging of any product) please donate them to people who would be THRILLED to have something to cover their bodies with regardless of whether it makes them look dumpy!
