Healthy Hair

Last month I wrote an article, Repairing my damaged hair, lamenting the state of my damaged hair and highlighting a possible remedy. Since then I have been using Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Time Renewal shampoo and conditioner consistently on an every other day basis. The directions say to use it everyday, but I am of the philosophy that washing your hair everyday will strip it of the natural oils and is simply not good for your hair, thus I have been using it every other day. Here is an account of my journey towards healthy beautiful hair:

Wash 1 and 2: I noticed absolutely no change and wondered if this was worth the time. I was also concerned that using a drugstore product might damage my hair, but I decided to keep using it and see if I had any results in the next few washes.

Wash 3: This time I washed my hair in the evening and let it dry over night in a duck bill clip. When I woke up the next morning I let my hair down and as I ran my fingers through my hair I wondered why it was so soft. It was so noticeably soft that I almost thought it was strange, then I remembered the shampoo and conditioner. It must be the Restoratives, I thought! I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.

Washes 4 and 5: My hair just kept getting softer and softer. The only thing was, it was missing a certain smoothness I was looking for.

Washes 6 and 7: Both washes produced a slightly smoother finish to my hair and over all it was soft and pretty.

wash 8: Now this was the moment I’d been waiting for!! My friend and I were in the store looking at hair products. She felt my hair and her eyes got really wide as she asked me what I had been doing to my hair to get such a drastic change from the fried hair of a few weeks ago. Pantene Restoratives Time Renewal, I answered. Ok, I thought, I am definitely on my way toward healthy hair. Now all I need is for my boyfriend to coment on how nice it feels. Since I fried my hair he never wants to touch it, so that would be not only proof but a nice bonus.

Washes 9, 10, and 11: Washes nine and ten yielded about the same results, but it was just after wash eleven that I found the result I’d been looking for. I was relaxing on the couch with my boyfriend when he ran his fingers through my hair and said, “baby, your hair feels really nice”. Victory, sweet victory! That was enough for me, I was thrilled.

Every wash since then: My hair now looks very healthy, feels soft and shines. I noticed that each strand of hair is smoother and this allows my shine serum to reflect the light better.

Over all I am very happy with the results of Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Time Renewal. After this treatment, the only thing that is still damaged about my hair is the very ends. They are still split and break. Due to this I started to try the Restoratives hair mask, to be used once a week to “quench parched strands”. This was a mistake, not only did I not see any results, it actually made my hair dry. Taking this out of my routine and going back to the shampoo and conditioner regimen my hair returned to the soft state of before.

Still looking for the solution to my split ends I am going to start using Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Breakage Defense line. This line claims you will have 90% less breakage in one month. I have also noticed that Aveda has released a Damage Remedy collection with Restructuring shampoo, conditioner and an intense restructuring treatment. As I love the aromatic experience that Aveda products offer and am always looking for an excuse to add one of their products to my bath or home collection, I will very likely try this line as well. As results develop I’ll write more. Stay tuned…

      Sexy Layered and Wavy Hair

Want to get that naturally wavy, sexy layered and tousled look? Towel dry your hair, leaving it slightly damp. Scrunch damp hair with a curl boosting gel or cream and a shine serum, twirl hair into one big pin curl and clip it with a duck bill clip. Another way of doing this is to twirl hair up with a hair stick. Leave hair up for half an hour, take hair down, scrunch the ends with curl boosting gel or spray with Tigi Curls Rock Curl Booster spray. If you have very thick hair it may be easier to wash your hair in the evening and do this process overnight. Finish with a shine spray.

Key to carrying this style off successfully is having your hair look, feel, and be healthy. Start by preparing your hair with a thirty day treatment of Pantene Pro-V Restoratives. Also, take a daily regimen of Biotin. Biotin is a part of the B complex family and produces amazing results in hair, skin, and nails. Biotin will restore health to any part of your damaged hair and can even cure bald spots. I recommend taking 2,500 to 5,000 mcg per day. Treat your self to a haircut to get rid of any split ends or breakage. If your hair is really damaged use a weekly reconditioner; biogenol makes an exceptional one with ingredients that will also protect your hair from the sun.

      Repairing My Damaged Hair

Filed Under Blog, Hair | Leave a Comment

About two years ago I bleached my hair blond and ever since then my hair has felt like straw. To make matters worse, before I did this people would actually stop me on the sidewalk to ask me what I did to make my hair so beautiful. Now my friends were actually asking me how I damaged my hair so badly and I was embarrassed any time someone tried to touch it. I even let the blond grow out and went back to my favorite red, but still my hair felt brittle, broke every day, and was always falling out. So one day I said, “enough!” I don’t know how, but I am going to get my gorgeous hair back! So I set about to make my hair beautiful once again.

I started by using one of my favorite conditioners, Biogenol Reconditioner. This product is great for damaged hair and it will not fade your color. I had good results with this product in the past and this time I definitely noticed a difference in the texture of my hair, but I wasn’t anywhere near satisfied. Next I decided to get a really good haircut by a salon I trust implicitly. My theory? Cut off all the split ends, get a cut with a great shape and my hair will be back on its way to beautiful. The cut was amazing and I was very happy with the results. I would no longer be embarrassed for my boyfriend to run his fingers through my hair and it was starting to look genuinely pretty. But as I walked out of the salon I noticed that there were still a few split ends and my hair was not quite as smooth as I had wished it would be. The split ends were infuriating! I had three inches cut off and I still had a few split ends. What the heck was I going to do now?

That night I was watching TV when a hair commercial came on. The woman slung her model gorgeous hair over her shoulder as the announcer told me that “Pantene Pro-V Restoratives will undo up to 2 years of damage in 1 month”. I sat there as I realized I had become a little resigned. That’s a big promise, I thought. I thought a little more. Maybe I should try it. Yes, I should definitely test them on their promise. The worst it could do was nothing, maybe it would even help a little.

The next day I went down to the store to buy the shampoo and conditioner. $5.99 each for a miracle in a shampoo bottle? I was very curious to see what this would do. Thus began my testing of Pantene Pro-V Restoratives. I’ll be writing about my experience and my results with this product over the next thirty days or so. Stay tuned….
