Jewelry Trends for Fall and Winter
Filed Under Jewelry | 9 Comments
In the fashion world jewelry is changing just as often and as fast as the fashions, something new for every season and sometimes a switch in the middle of the season, from Fall to Winter or Spring to Summer. While it can be fairly easy to keep up with the clothing trends, jewelry can take a little more of a keen eye and an ear that’s always listening for what’s new.
Here’s what new, what’s hot, what’s in and what’s out for this Fall and Winter. Everything to put on your holiday wish list and everything to put away for another season. Make sure to keep anything that’s out for this season, it might be back in a season or two.
The hot ticket items for right now. There is nothing more “in” than these large gorgeous necklaces. If you only buy one piece for this season, this is it. Wear it alone or with small stud earrings.
Popping up everywhere from Glamor Magazine to Hollywood’s after parties, they’re back, gorgeous and they go with everything. Choose a pair in a silver setting instead of gold, this allows the stone to catch more light, causing it to sparkle. The silver setting creates the illusion of a larger stone and because the silver blends with the stud it will mix well with silver and gold accompaniments.
This trend has been going strong for the last year and continues into Fall and Winter. Wear lots of them! Find out more about this look: Jewelry Trend Alert!
Once again a hold over from previous seasons, but still the thing to wear. Last season however, was all about the 1960’s influenced rings, this season it’s more about the glamorous ’40’s. Think Betty Grable and Rita Hayworth.
For the moment they’re a classic in gold or silver, both thin and wide. Mix it up with a rhinestone hoop earing or double hoops.
What’s Out:
Chandeliers! So incredibly hot for so many seasons and so beautiful, you can still find them, they are just not the hot thing they were. But don’t worry, if you are lamenting the loss of this trend, there are whispers of a comeback in future seasons!

Bangles, Bangles, Bangles!: Lots of them! In silver, gold, white, it doesn’t really matter just wear them! This trend takes the place of the chandelier earrings trend we all held so close to our hearts. The bangle trend while not as gorgeous is equally sexy, it looks really great with tossed curly layered hair, see my article The Hair for Spring.
The Look: Wear thick bangles on both arms and layer different styles of bangles, such as hammered bangles mixed with smooth bangles. Stick with one color, the most popular of which are silver or gold followed by white. Wear the bangles alone or with a dramatic matching necklace. The best way to go with this trend is no earrings, but if you are going to wear them keep them simple.
Chic Meets Bohemian Combination: Mix silver bangles with bamboo bangles, if you want to mix it up you can also mix gold bangles with dark wood bangles for a more eclectic look.

Tiffany & Co. Newest Ring

For all you girls out there who love Tiffany & Co., the Company has introduced its latest engagement ring: Tiffany Novo, inspired by the famous 128.54 carat Tiffany diamond. Gorgeous, I say, gorgeous! I love the square cut and the little diamonds on the band leading up to the center stone give this classic ring a modern twist. Simplicity at it’s beautiful best!
So tell your beau about i! Don’t have one, not getting married, already have your engagement ring? Heck, let’s be thoroughly modern shall we? Buy it for yourself and wear it on your right hand. I haven’t until now been very found of the “wear it on your right hand” slogan, but for Tiffany’s, well, I think I might suffer through it.
Green Chandeliers

My sources tell me that chandelier earrings are on their way out. The question is, do any of us really want to give them up? These delightfully jeweled trinkets make us feel like the princess at her debut ball. Yet we will, in time, give up something we love in the name of fashion. Of course knowing that if we tuck it away in a safe place it will, at some point, resurface. Fashion after all does recycle and it is once in a blue moon that we see a truly original statement not known previously to the world.
So having this all in mind, after my daily reading of Musings On Urban Life, I was feeling very bohemian. I think it was reading articles on theater in different cities that gave me that sort of world traveler “throw all plans to the wind” feeling. It was in this state that I came across my green chandeliers. I like these earrings so much that I was, at one point, wearing them every day. As I slid them into my ear lobes all of the articles from Vogue, Bazaar, and Elle flashed in front of my eyes. Things like, “put your chandeliers away for now” and “chandeliers are on their way out”, etc. And I thought, “Damn them all”! This is what I feel like doing today. Tomorrow I’ll where the chic H&M sideways hoops with the chain oh so delicately hung down the middle, but today is my day and I’ll be wearing my green chandeliers.
