L’Occitane Lavender Hand Cream

Did you know that L’Occitane, one of my favorite companies, is in the process of making all of it’s products organic?! Being a lover of organic and natural based products I was very excited to hear this. One of my favorite organic products made by L’Occitane is their Lavender Hand Cream. This cream feels amazing on your skin and will cure even the most parched of hands. While shea butter is the key moisturizing and healing ingredient in this lotion what makes it amazing is the combination of shea, lavender, and vitamin e. Shea butter is both soothing to your skin and actually helps in healing, lavender is great for sensitive skin and the smell is lavender-field.jpgso relaxing - just smell it whenever you are stressed, while vitamin e aids in encouraging cell renewal. In addition to all of this I also find this hand cream to be slightly water proof, which is great for me, I usually have to use hand cream every time I run my hands under water. And it’s organic! How can you resist?

stila-illuminating.jpgThis is a comment from one of my readers in response to Get A Summer Glow, it perfectly embodies the glow of the moment. I love the “like you just came off the beach” bit! Stila’s illuminator is a must! Check out what she has to say:

“I love the glow too. My favorite is Stila’s illuminated tinted face moisturizer with SPF 15. It gives that perfect glow like you just came off the beach. I put it all over my face just like a normal moisturizer and then use powder on my t-zone, a little blush, and some eye shadow with a natural lip gloss. It’s great!”

The Best Sun Screens

Filed Under Blog, Seasonal, Skin Care | 1 Comment

As summer sneaks up on us you’re no doubt getting your beach and sun gear together. As you gather all the necessities make sure that you replace any sunblock that is over six months old. When sunblock sits for more than six months it starts to lose it’s potency, accounting for hundreds of sunburns with seemingly no known cause. I had sunblock on, I don’t understand why I got burnt! You most likely had on sunblock from last summer, or worse the summer before that. Also, if you are fair skinned make sure you refresh your sunscreen every two hours, but even if you are darker this is a good idea for protection against wrinkles. Fair skins are more at risk for skin cancer, but darker skins are just as at risk for wrinkles!

If you are in need of replacing your screens these are some of my favorites. My cabinet is never without them! I am fair skinned so I have had years of experience with what works and what doesn’t. All of these also have the added benefit of leaving your skin better and softer than before you put them on. And whatever you do don’t forget to add you chicest pair of UVA, UVB block sunglasses to protect the delicate skin around your eyes from sun and squinting lines!

Alba Botanica Organic Lavender Sunscreen SPF 30
This sunscreen makes your skin so soft and it smells wonderful, very relaxing. This formula is water resistant so its great for those days when you’re not playing hard in the water, but you want a little something extra. Also works great under makeup.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Cooling Mist Sunblock SPF 45 One of my all time favorites, hands down! This stuff is amazing! It’s waterproof, sweatproof, and it feels so good and cooling on your skin. This sunscreen works better than any sunscreen I have ever used and extremely well in intense sun. Last year I was in southern Baja on a sail boat for ten days. Like I said I am fair skinned and the sun is much more intense closer to the equator. I used this sunscreen the whole time, reapplying every two hours, stayed cool, got no burn and actually got a better tan than I have ever had before!

Neutrogena Age Shield Sunblock SPF 45 Like the Neutrogena sunblock above this works amazingly well and is sweatproof and waterproof. I use this sunscreen on my face, particularly when I am in intense sun or am going to be in the sun all day. Both of these sunscreens have Neutrogena’s patented Helioplex™ technology that provides an unbeatable level of Broad-Spectrum UV defense (this technology was previously only available in Europe and works better than anything I’ve seen).

Prevent Wrinkles Early

Summer is just about upon us and all I can say is, please, please, please…use the sunscreen!! Dermatologist estimate that 80% of wrinkles, before the age of sixty, are caused by over exposure to the sun. Need I say more? Well, just in case I do need to - we usually only think about overexposure to the sun if we are at the beach, or outside all day. Do you think about it when you have your window rolled down, enjoying the fresh summer air? How about when you take that nice walk to lunch (more calories burned if you walk, right)? All the little exposures during the day add up to little tiny lines showing up early and getting worse later, especially with that delicate skin around your eyes. We must use as much care to protect and preserve our skin with preventative measures as we do when we actually see the wrinkles appear.

Make sure you use a moisturizer with sunscreen in it or, if your favorite moisturizer is without sunscreen apply one on top of your moisturizer. If you use foundation you can also use a foundation that has sun screen as part of its ingredients. When you are going to be outdoors all day make sure you use a sunscreen that is strong enough to protect you, and don’t forget your eyelids, top of your ears and hair part line! We don’t want skin cancer any more than we want wrinkles. Most of all, make sure you carry a bottle of sunscreen with you, it’s the times when your caught unexpected that will do the most damage. You know what I’m talking about, it’s such a beautiful day that you decide to have lunch on the patio. The conversation is so good and you are having so much fun that you linger for hours, and before you know it you look like a lobster. Avoid this situation with your trusty travel size tube of sunscreen, a must for every purse in your closet!

Stay tuned tomorrow, I’ll be highlighting my favorite my have sun screens!
